After about a month in business, Mo’s A-Maize-N BBQ appears to have closed

Mo's A-Maize-In BBQ

It appears that Mo’s A-Maize-N BBQ has closed after about a month in business. The restaurant Facebook page has been taken down and the Google business listing was marked as permanently closed over the past few days. Calls to the business never went through either.

It’s a third short run for the business owner who was part of the group that opened The Barbe-Q Pit in 2019 in the former Jezebel’s space. That restaurant was open for roughly a month. They also had a short run with Masters of Barbeque in Park City in 2023.

News then came out in February, that the owners launched an unsuccessful Kickstarter campaign to open a new restaurant. That campaign only raised $251 of their $8,500.

Eventually, the owners would open Mo’s A-Maize-N BBQ at 5125 N Maize Rd in the former Nancy’s A-Maize-N Sandwiches space.

In late March, KAKE news shared a story about former employees contacting the U.S. Department of Labor for back pay they never received.

The situation is similar to that of The Barbe-Q Pit where former employees filed a federal lawsuit for unpaid wages. The Wichita Eagle reported the latter situation.

In Mo’s A-Maize-N BBQ’s Kickstarter campaign, there was talk of a south side restaurant coming to Wichita. There’s been no update on whether this will happen. If so, could the fourth time be the charm for the restaurant owners?
