Revisiting N&J Cafe for classic Middle Eastern cuisine

I had a meeting to attend and was in charge of coming up with suggestions. My list of places were mostly south side restaurants, and we came to an agreement on a long-time Wichita classic, N&J Cafe: Middle Eastern Cuisine. Come to find out, one of the people who came along had never been, so it was cool to introduce someone to this iconic restaurant.

We started with some pita chips and hummus. I loved the hummus. There was a refreshing touch of tanginess in each bite; a nice and light starter to our meals.

My lunch companions ordered the kafta burger. I didn’t get a picture of it because they hopped right in immediately. But they quickly finished their meals and told me they loved it.

The special of the day during my visit was the baked kebbe. Our server described it as a seasoned meatloaf. I was sold.

It came with a side of my choice and I went with tabouli. The baked kebbe came with a side of some lemon tahini sauce.

The baked kebbe was shaped like a piece of meatloaf, but that’s where the similarities ended. It wasn’t greasy or juicy like meatloaf. The baked kebbe was a drier in texture but loaded with flavor and seasoned to perfection. I couldn’t stop eating it and was done before I knew it.

I loved the portion size of the meal which was perfect for lunch. It was enough to fill me up and not walk away feeling bloated.

N&J Cafe

As always, the service at N&J Cafe was great.

This place is seriously one of the best eats in town.

Here is the menu:
