Opera Kansas Presents a Windwagon-themed HMS Pinafore at Wichita Riverfest, June 1 & 2

Wichita, KS – Opera Kansas is thrilled to announce the return of opera to Wichita Riverfest with a reimagined production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s comic operetta HMS Pinafore, set on a Windwagon sailing the prairie seas of Kansas. Performances will take place Saturday, June 1 at 7:30 PM and Sunday, June 2 at Century II’s Mary Jane Teall Theatre.

Led by a talented cast of regional singers, the production features Timothy Bostwick as Sir Joseph Porter, First Lord of the Admiralty, Patrick Howle as Captain Corcoran, Ethan Manlove as Ralph Rackstraw, Danielle Herrington as Josephine, Heather Redondo as Little Buttercup, and Spencer McIntire as Dick Deadeye. The production will be directed by John Stephens, Professor of Voice at the University of Kansas, with music direction by Joel Garber, sets by Richard Shultz, and costumes by Emily Baldridge.

“After a long hiatus, Opera Kansas is thrilled to be back at Riverfest,” says Matt Schloneger, Executive Director of Opera Kansas. “We love the idea of Riverfest’s traditional Windwagon, and we think Admiral Windwagon Smith will be proud of our production set in Kansas as our British sailors sail the waving wheat!”

Opera Kansas is dedicated to enriching the cultural landscape of Kansas through the transformative power of opera. By producing innovative and accessible productions, Opera Kansas aims to inspire, educate, and entertain audiences of all ages. This production is supported by the City of Wichita, the Wichita Wagonmasters, and a generous bequest from the estate of Jacqueline Nagel.

Tickets are available through both operakansas.org and wichitariverfest.com. A Wichita Riverfest button is required to attend and can be purchased in conjunction with Opera Kansas tickets or separately.
