I returned to where it all started. Colvin Elementary invited me to a “Taste of Home May Festival” to be the food judge for their event.
Students were tasked with bringing something that represents their home or family to celebrate the May Festival. There was food and dancing all to show off all the culture that lives within the walls of Colvin.
I was given the tall task of choosing the best dish. In the end, I went with the Venezuelan empanada and tizana. The child was then awarded best chef in a presentation after the festival was over.
It was hard to decide as there were so many great homemade dishes spanning so many different backgrounds.
Thank you Colvin!
One of my favorite things was watching children go from station to station unafraid to try different foods. It made me realize I have failed as a parent.
