To celebrate the new lunar year, I wanted to get something that would remind me of my days growing up. I ended up at one of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants in Wichita, Kimlan Sandwiches. They are by far one of the most affordable and delicious places to eat in town. Everything on the menu is under $7.

One of my favorite parts about Kimlan aside from the incredible value is the French bread used to make the sandwiches. People have their preference on how hard or sturdy the bread should be and it varies from place to place. My preference is a crispy outside and soft interior. In contrast, my mother prefers a crispier more sturdy bread. It all comes down to what you like and Kimlan delivers.
They have 15 different sandwich options to choose from with a vast majority of them being under $4. My favorite two are the #1 Combination which includes pork roll, BBQ pork and meatball and the #2 Special Combination which is premium ham, headcheese, pork, roll and pate. There is also a veggie option. All the sandwiches come with pickled carrots, jalapeno, cilantro, cucumber and mayo which pack so much more flavor and even heat to it.
They also travel well. I tend to order extra and take them home to save for later. Just add in the pickled carrots, jalapeno, cilantro, and cucumber to taste and you’re set.
And it has to be said the ladies working at Kimlan are such a treat. They are some hard-working individuals who always have a smile on their face when I’m there.
Here’s their menu:
Happy Dining,
