Braeburn Square at Wichita State University is continuing to grow. The shopping strip right off of 21st street that holds Fuzzy’s Taco Shop has added another restaurant. Journey East Asia Grill opened last week to the public.
They are a build-your-own Chipotle style setup where you create your own Asian fusion bowls. It’s a mix of Malaysian, Thai, Chinese, Japanese and Korean.

Inside there’s plenty of seating including a patio facing the east side of the building that will be perfect when the weather is nice.
Just like many restaurants where you create your own bowl, there are preset options and then the ability to choose what your heart desires.
On our visit, we created our own bowls.
We started off with choosing a base which consisted of noodle options. Then we moved on to the meat/protein station where there were a handful of options along with a sauce to pair it with. There were five choices of each which you can find in the menu below. After that we chose the toppings. To fill you up even more, the meals came with two sides. The bowls were $8.50 which were a great bargain especially for any college student on campus.
I tried two of their soup sides and loved the Tom Yam soup. It had a nice spicy kick to it.
The portion sizes were bigger than the picture may show. We were definitely full by the time we left. I had their sliced beef bowl with rice noodles and Korean bulgogi sauce. The meals weren’t anything overly special, but they were satisfying enough that I’d come back. I felt the bowl was a little on the dry side so perhaps more sauce could have easily fixed that. The biggest downside was the kimchi which felt dried out. The quality of everything else wasn’t bad at all.
They literally just opened the week we stopped by so there was room for improvement. But overall, Journey East Asia Grill showed some promise and could be a great option for students as well as people looking for a quick meal before a Wichita State game. Add to that, the staff was extremely nice and friendly that it gave me more of a reason to return.
I’ll be back for another review after they get some more time underneath their belt.
