Readers to vote on their favorite taco in Wichita’s Most Liked Taco Championship on Sunday evening

Here we are. Two and a half months worth of voting and thousands of people coming out to support their favorite tacos has brought us to this moment. The championship matchup of Wichita’s Most Liked Taco. We started off with a tournament bracket featuring a whopping 128 restaurants, food trucks, and pop-ups around town dishing out tacos. And we will be ending it with a popular vote of whom the readers feel is their favorite taco in the ICT.

The massive list included nearly every locally owned taco option along with some national chains to fill in the 128 spots. It ranged everywhere from street tacos, fried tacos, Vegan tacos, gourmet tacos, fast food tacos and creative taco options that range from one end of Wichita to the other. It’s 100% Wichita.

Of all the style of tacos, the classic street tacos won out and are featured in the finale. It’s Tacos TJ 664 vs. Paleteria La Reyna. On one side, it’s one of the newer arrivals in town comparatively speaking. Tacos TJ 664 started out as a food truck and in the past year moved to a brick & mortar building at 803 N West Street. On the other side it’s the Mexican dessert shop at the southwest corner 29th and Arkansas that has been dishing out Mexican food for years.

Here’s a bit of irony. Eight years ago, Paleteria La Reyna had a second location. I’ll give you one guess where it was; in the building that now houses Tacos TJ 664. Everything has come full circle in 2020 with the grand finale.

The time to vote starts Sunday evening.

REMEMBER, the results of this post don’t necessarily mean they are the best taco but more of which place has the most online support thus Most Liked. This all comes down to social media support. In the end, I hope you found some new taco options out of the 128 places in the tournament. And just like the previous brackets, I will not be voting in any bracket. This will be left strictly to the general audience.

If you’d like to vote, you can find the matchup on the Wichita By E.B. Facebook page starting Sunday evening.

Download the full PDF here. And since the bracket is so large, I had to split it up into two images so printing off the file and viewing it that way is the best way.

We went from 128 down to 2, now we continue on down to championship. May the best taco win.

Happy Dining,
Eddy
