What to expect at Michelandia

I received word that a new restaurant opened in the former Cashpoint Car Title Loans space at 679 Eisenhower next door to Rene’s. It’s called Michelandia, and they specialize in all things michelada! While I didn’t have much time, I wanted to quickly pop in and give you all an idea of what to expect on your visit.

First off, what’s a michelada? You may have seen them on the menu at many Mexican restaurants around town. It’s basically a beer prepared with lime juice, assorted sauces, spices, tomato juice, and chile peppers. Many places have different versions of micheladas and Michelandia expands on that. Here’s an example:

The restaurant just opened for carryout and drive thru earlier this month with a limited menu of drinks and snacks to choose from.

To start, they are offering different styles of micheladas all prepared differently. For example, they have one made with beer, Smirnoff vodka and even the ever-popular White Claw.

Since I was on dad duty, I passed on the drinks but did order a couple of items off of their snack menu for lunch (and pictures). I went with their tostada de ceviche and aguachiles to go.

When I arrived home, it was like my own DIY tostada kits; complete with the tortilla chips, tostadas and all the seafood I needed.

It was simple to put together and that’s coming from someone who gets lost just walking in the kitchen. I much preferred the tostada de ceviche simply because I love how zesty it is. I’ll add that I think it would have been better eaten on the spot than taken home in the car. It’s just one of those foods better for dine-in or in the car then traveling home.

Plus I’m sure a michelada would have made the meal more refreshing. That just means I’ll need to return to Michelandia.

Happy Dining,
Eddy
