Product Review: Stouffer’s Spaghetti with Meatballs

Earlier this week it was National Spaghetti Day. I wanted to celebrate the day but realized all the good options were closed around town. I didn’t want to miss out and Dillons was my only option. (Editor’s Note: I know what some of you are wondering. Why not cook it yourself? Sorry, still not an option that evening out of pure laziness.)

With Dillons as my only option, I walked through the frozen section and came across a $1.88 box of Stouffer’s Spaghetti with Meatballs. No lie, Stouffer’s isn’t half-bad and a much better alternative than the Banquet meals which I covered here. I actually have used Stouffer’s lasagna in the past for my lasagna soup. With that, I figured why not try their spaghetti.

I picked up a single box, made my way home and popped it in the microwave for six and a half minutes. There was an oven method that took 45 minutes but I wasn’t about to spend that long to prepare some frozen food for a blog review. (Editor’s Note: Once again, pure laziness.)

The microwave, while convenient, wasn’t the most ideal way to prepare the meal especially considering the meatballs weren’t cooked evenly. Some of them were a cooked properly while others had a tough exterior. When they were cooked evenly, they were decent by microwave standards. The noodles weren’t exactly firm and obviously not comparable to a homecooked spaghetti. That’s a big trade off between the convenience of frozen spaghetti versus the simplicity of boiling a pot of noodles at home.

As for the spaghetti sauce, it was surprisingly decent for frozen foods. There was a subtle sweetness to it that was reminiscent of off-brand spaghetti sauce. A positive was the sauce had a thickness to it and wasn’t so runny.

If I had to use one word to best describe Stouffer’s Spaghetti with Meatballs, I’d say decent.

Happy Dining,
Eddy
