Brew Bash returns to Chicken N Pickle to benefit League 42

Brew Bash

Sports have always been a big part of my life, and one of the organizations that provides children that opportunity is League 42. If you’ve never heard of it, League 42 is a non-profit organization named in honor of the great Jackie Robinson. It’s a youth baseball league composed primarily of urban children ages 5 – 14.

The non-profit was founded in July 2013, to fill a void so that Wichita’s urban children could have an opportunity to play baseball without the exorbitant costs of playing in organized or even recreational leagues.

For any parent with a child who plays competitive baseball, you know first-hand just how expensive it can be, especially once you get into the traveling teams. That’s what makes League 42 so special. Registration for the league is only $30 per player or family of siblings, as they strive to make baseball affordable for all who want to play. That fee provides each player with a full uniform (jersey, pants, belt, and hat), a baseball glove (if needed), and additional playing equipment such as catcher’s gear, bats, and balls. In League 42’s first season, they fielded 16 teams with more than 200 players. From there, the league has grown to nearly 600 kids and 44 teams in 2020.

Fundraisers and the help of the community is what makes organizations like this work. On Thursday, April 7, Chicken N Pickle at 1240 N. Greenwich Road is once again hosting Brew Bash to benefit League 42.

For $25 a ticket, the event includes a souvenir CNP cup, steak fajita tacos, beer tastings, and live music. Tickets for walk-ups will be $30. So, I’d definitely encourage you to get your tickets ahead of time here.

There will be other fun things going on, such as a Beer Spin for $10 that gets you a 6-pack of beer on whatever it lands on. A silence auction with some really awesome items like a one of a kind League 42 fire pit, a solo stove, the opportunity to co-host the Drive with Bob Lutz, the opportunity to name RCB’s next craft beer, wine, and more.

It’s a great event for an even greater cause. To purchase your tickets for the event, head here or check out the Chicken N Pickle event page.
