Up next in the rotation was Letter C for the Dining by the Children’s Alphabet feature, where we check out kid’s menus all around town. For this letter, we stopped by College Hill Deli & Catering at 3407 E. Douglas Avenue.
The children’s menu featured a list of five dishes all at $5.99 for good kids or $20.99 for bad parents. There were chicken fries, cheese pizza, kid’s pasta and a hamburger. My daughter told me she wasn’t hungry, but she also tells me that 99% of the time sugar isn’t involved. So today, I had to cut a deal with her where she received a toy if she ate a good portion of her meal.
She agreed on a hamburger with french fries.
Ideally, I’d like her to try different dishes on every visit, but know some will be a struggle. Fortunately, this wasn’t one at all. She happily ate her burger with no debate or argument. Even with bribery, she’ll occasionally throw a fit, but was in great spirits during our dinner.
We chatted about life, the upcoming Halloween holiday and she gave me a constant reminder her birthday was in June. Why get the date tattooed on me, when she’s there to remind me every minute?
The fact that she was in a great mood, willing to eat, and extremely chatty, made this the best dinner to date. At times I caught myself staring at her, taking in the moment and hoping she never grows up.
One of the funny things about our dinner was the way she ate her burger. She would turn it to the side at times and take bites of the bun. Then turn it again and eat the actual patty. As long as she’s eating, I’m not complaining.
She ate probably half her burger and most of her fries, and made sure to remind me that we had to go shopping for a toy afterwards. I happily honored my part of the bargain. Time to plan for Letter D.
