First Look at Fonda La Chona – An instant winner in my book

Fonda La Chona

From the creators of Taqueria La Chona (who also happens to be one of my fav restaurants) comes their sister restaurant, which has taken over a former Jimmy’s Egg space at 1210 W. Pawnee. It’s the much anticipated Fonda La Chona, who recently opened in early December.

To start things off, they did a fantastic job of renovating the old Jimmy’s Egg space. For more visuals, check out the video near the end of this blog.

Our meal began with complimentary chips and salsa. They had an assortment of different salsas with different heat levels. I stuck with the guacamole salsa, which I may or may not have nearly emptied the bottle myself.

Fonda La Chona

The original menu they gave us was the exact menu from Taqueria La Chona. I asked if they had any new dishes that would only be found at Fonda La Chona. Our server told us they had a new menu that wasn’t released yet, but gave us a sneak peek. While perusing the new menu, she informed us they had green spaghetti. My jaw dropped, I’ve only had it once at a graduation party catered by Leo’s Taqueria. It was one of the most memorable dishes I’ve ever had at a party.

Since then, I’ve never seen a restaurant around town serve it so I knew immediately to order it. The dish came with bacon-wrapped shrimp. Bacon anything is always a winner so I knew I was in for a treat…. and it was. The spaghetti had a denser texture to it, more because of the green creme sauce. It was fantastic. While I loved the bacon-wrapped shrimp, which gave the dish plenty of substance, the green spaghetti is where my taste buds kept going back to.

It was such a unique dish in town and I was beyond happy to finally have it again.

Another order at my table was the Fajitas Rancheras which was chicken and steak fajitas topped with fried eggs. I snapped a picture, simply for reference.

If you’ve ever been to Taqueria La Chona, you are probably aware the food will be phenomenal. When I heard they were going to open a second restaurant, I was hoping they would add more dishes and they did.

Fonda La Chona is a big win for southwest Wichita. Check them out.

Here’s a sneak peek menu they had available the day we dropped in. Everything on here wasn’t available yet, but should be by now:

Happy Dining,
Eddy
