Flying Monkey Con 2023
Hailed as the largest tabletop gaming convention in Wichita, Flying Monkey Con took place over the weekend at Drury Plaza Hotel Broadview.
I’m a huge gamer, but this style of competitive gaming has been something I’m unfamiliar with. An employee at one of the local game shops suggested I stop by and so I did. After all, seeing different things in Wichita is right up my alley.
When I stepped inside the hotel and into the convention room, I was met with a sea of people, tables, and games.
It was not just one full convention room, but two that were filled.
There was a buzz in the room as everyone was focused. The entire weekend was filled with Warhammer 40K, Age of Sigmar, Blood Bowl and Marvel Crisis Protocol.
Attendees brought their miniatures and hand-painted figures. I can only imagine the amount of time it took to construct and paint everything.
From someone unfamiliar with competitive gaming like Warhammer, it was a lot to take in. But the beauty of Wichita is there’s truly something always going on that covers the many interests in this city.
