First Look at Nas Kitchen: New York Bites

Nas Kitchen: New York Bites

Wichita’s newest restaurant opened Tuesday at 1920 W. 21st St. in the former Tamales & Monchis and Uno Mas space. Nas Kitchen is restaurant that specializes in New York-style Mediterranean food.  This is the first of four planned restaurants to open in Wichita. So with lofty goals comes a big bet and confidence in themselves that this concept will be a winner in Wichita.

I had to go find out for myself.

An interesting thing happened before the restaurants opening. Someone from Nas Kitchen’s social media account reached out to me and invited me to the grand opening, asking how much it would cost. No restaurant ever needs to pay me to come to a grand opening.

I told them I was pretty busy on that day; to hopefully throw them off. Of course, I planned to show up grand opening day, but preferred to do it anonymously. I didn’t want the preferential treatment and my goal was getting a good gauge on a restaurant with big goals.

As I walked in, only a few customers sat inside either dining or waiting on food. I approached the counter and they handed me a menu. The first question I asked was, “What would you recommend?”

Without hesitation, the gentleman at the counter said, “Halal chicken platter”, so that’s what I went with. And this was what I received.

It was A LOT of food. The pictures don’t do it justice as the container was deep and stuffed with more food than I needed over lunch.

There was a layer of white sauce covering my dish. I didn’t know where to begin, so I just started mixing everything and took a bite. Good heavens, this was incredible. The chicken was very tender; I loved the cut up bits of tomato and cucumber. Rice was the perfect filler and the white sauce was creamy and tangy. I had to ask for more white sauce to just drown my food in; literally, I couldn’t stop. It was addictive.

The halal chicken platter was a phenomenal dish that left me wanting more. I’m making a promise to myself right now, that I’ll be returning in the next month.

As for the service, there were some guys were working the kitchen and the front counter. All of them were very nice, engaging, and all smiles. They asked every customer walking out if they could tell their friends. I nodded my head and said I would.

So friends, my first visit to Nas Kitchen was fantastic and I can’t wait to go back.

Here’s the menu:

Happy Dining,
Eddy
