Shop Local: Getting my daughter’s first bike at the locally owned Bicycle X-Change

Bicycle X-Change

The top item on my daughter’s Christmas list is a “big girl bike”. We could have purchased it at one of the big box stores, but we opted to shop local and visit Bicycle X-Change.

It’s a store I’ve actually never been in. And for a place that’s been open for over 50 years, I figured it was time to show them some love and give them some business.

The Bicycle X-Change has literally everything one would need when it comes to bikes. They have the clothing, helmets, accessories, upgrades, spare equipment, and of course, the bikes.

The moment I walked in, the staff all said hello and were full of energy.

I’m not a bike guy and know about as much about bikes as I do professional writing….so very little. When asked what brought me in, I let them know I was looking for a bicycle for my daughter. They had all the right questions to ask me to help guide me towards the right bike.

A gentleman by the name of Patrick helped me and was beyond helpful and just had all the good vibes around him. His personality and upbeat attitude made me want to buy like five bikes for my daughter.

He led me into a room that was full of bikes.

He showed me some kids Trek bikes and gave me the lowdown on them. Even better, their prices were competitive and spot on with the big box stores. Plus, I had a personal level of customer service from someone who really knew all about bikes.

While I wanted to buy five bikes, arriving home with that many bikes and a receipt probably wouldn’t have gone well with the boss lady. But I did manage to buy one that will be all wrapped up from Santa in late December.

We ended up with a Trek bike like the one below, but in pink…. because that’s her favorite color.

Shout out to Patrick, and thanks to Bicycle X-Change for making this dad, I mean Santa, look like a hero on Christmas Day.

To visit them (not Santa), Bicycle X-Change has two locations at 908 W. Douglas and at 1516 E. Central.  You can also check them out on Facebook, the web, or call 316-262-9878.
