First Look at SAM Pizza

SAM Pizza

We’re not talking about Sam’s Club today, but SAM Pizza. It’s the newest pizza option available in Wichita.

Ever since the closing of Mary’s Pizza Italian Kitchen inside Towne East Square, there’s been a void for pizza in the mall. SAM Pizza now looks to fill that void.

Located downstairs in the food court, SAM Pizza sells pizza by the slice, whole pies, wings, French bread, breadsticks, and cheesecake.

Most people who frequent mall pizza establishments typically go with pizza by the slice where a single cheese slice runs $3.99 while a one topping slice is $4.99. If you would like to add an additional topping, that is $1.50 each which would put the supreme slice well over $10. Most 16” pizzas run $24.99.

The wings and pizza were sitting out when I arrived. I must admit, it didn’t look too appetizing just sitting there.

I placed an order for a single pepperoni pizza slice and order of six wings.SAM Pizza then ran both under the little oven of sorts to reheat them.

Here is what $15 + taxes and tip netted me.

There’s such a thing as good mall pizza. I’ve had it before, but this wasn’t it.

Starting off with the wings at SAM Pizza, they were very rubbery and chewy. Pulling the meat off the bone required quite a bit of work as well. The pizza was better… only by default. I was not a fan of the crust. It was very floppy and wasn’t firm at all. The texture was like holding a piece of Play-Doh that has been sitting outside in the sun all day. And the cheese? It also had this rubbery texture with each bite.

Bottom line, there are better options inside the mall and certainly more affordable/bang for your buck.

To quote Dr. Seuss.

I do not like them, Pizza by SAM.
I do not like green eggs and ham.
