The worst ribs I’ve ever had in Wichita

Chili's

It’s time to talk about the worst ribs I’ve ever had and I can thank Chili’s Bar & Grill for that.

During a family outing, the votes went towards Chili’s way. I had to look it up, and it’s been a little under three years since I last stopped by the American casual dining restaurant chain.

Now it wasn’t all terrible; we started our dinner with the skillet beef queso which I really think was the highlight of the night for everyone.

But after that, things went downhill fast. Our youngest had the cheese quesadillas and complained about how hard and crispy the quesadillas were, mainly the ends of them. Seriously, you could have broken a car window with how rock hard that was.

Then it was on to my issues, I had the baby back ribs, solely because of the jingle. I’m a sucker for memorable marketing songs.

My order consisted of a full slab, and at first glance it looked to be an overcooked chunk of meat with BBQ sauce glazed over the top.

Chili's Ribs

Upon further investigation, it literally was the worst ribs I’ve ever had. There was barely any meat at all on the bone.

It was like they glued together used bones and tried to coat it with BBQ sauce to make it look presentable. I really think I have more meat on my left pinky than all the meat on my Chili’s baby back ribs combined. It was a very sad display of BBQ that left me leaving the place hungry. Not even hangry, more so disappointed.

The little rib meat that was in the bone was mostly dry, flavorless and at some points hardened pieces of meat.

I’ve had some bad ribs in my time; hell, I’ve made some subpar ones myself, but this was by far the worst of the bunch. My daughter’s Play Doh smoker could probably put out better Q than what Chili’s charged me $25 for.

Everybody else in my family was pretty lukewarm on their meals. And we all agreed that’s probably the last time we’ll stop by Chili’s for the foreseeable future.

On the bright side, the service was, once again, great. Our drinks were refilled promptly; it was easy to tab out, and the food came out in a timely manner.

Now it makes me wonder if Applebee’s is better than Chili’s.
