When Tsunami first opened up, I used to go there weekly. In recent years, it seems like the place has gone through ownership changes, management changes, staff turnover that I quit going as much and maybe stopped in once every handful of months.
Due to their location, Tsunami still draws a pretty decent lunch crowd.
Tsunami is located at 6254 E 37th St which is near the northwest area of 37th and Woodlawn. Their hours are:
Monday 10:30 am – 3:30 pm, 5:00 – 9:00 pm
Tuesday 10:30 am – 3:30 pm, 5:00 – 9:00 pm

They serve a wide variety of Asian style Chinese food and Teriyaki. They cover a pretty wide gamut of Asian dishes. So with so many options what do you order? I’ve had probably at least half of their menu items so maybe I could be of service to you all.
So for the next installment in the “Must Try Menu Item” feature, I bring you Tsunami: Char-Broiled Teriyaki.
With so many options to choose from and having tried many of the dishes offered, there’s one dish that is far and away my favorite. It’s the Thai Basil Pepper with chicken. At the price of $8.29 not including taxes or tip, you get Thai Basil Pepper that is sautéed with fresh basil, zucchini and peanuts in a spicy house sauce. All of this laid over a bed of white steamed rice.
There are nice big chunks of chicken to fill you up. The mix of ingredients with the spicy house sauce is very flavorful. For those concerned about the spicy house sauce, do not be concerned. I do not find this spicy at all and don’t think those with a low tolerance for spicy foods will have a problem with this.

I must say it feels as though the serving size of it has dropped in recent years but it’s still my go to item at Tsunami. It is almost to the point, I do not get anything else there.
