Girl Scout Cookies! |
It’s that time of year when families go around the neighborhood door to door, when families are posted up at Dillon’s entrances, when parents bring signup sheets and boxes to work………it’s Girl Scout cookie season.
Since 1917, members of the Girl Scouts of the USA have been selling these delicious snacks making us all throw aside our New Years Resolutions in exchange for selfish happiness but at the same time helping kids around the nation.
Every so often some cookies get discontinued and new cookies are introduced. This year there are nine different flavors available. Being a big fan of gluttony and bad influences, I purchased all nine flavors and took them over to my family to have them try it all to see what they thought. Whatever they didn’t eat, I took in to work to share with my co-workers. Which I’m glad I did because putting a bunch of kids together to eat cookies is hard to get valid opinions out of.
So with all that said, here are the 2016 Girl Scout Cookies now available:
PEANUT BUTTER PATTIES
Description: Crispy vanilla cookies layered with peanut butter and covered with a chocolaty coating.
A true favorite among all the kids as well as co-workers who tried it. This was the first of the nine boxes that was completely finished. If you love both peanut butter and chocolate, this is your go to.
As one of my nieces stated, “it taste lemonade-y”. Don’t put much stock into this quote.
PEANUT BUTTER SANDWICH
Description: Crisp and crunchy oatmeal cookies with creamy peanut butter filling.
Another favorite by so many people including myself. If you’re a parent and having problems having your child eat sandwiches, have them try these sandwiches and they’ll have a happy plate sooner than you can say, “Thank you Wichita By E.B.!”
The same niece earlier stated, “it taste lemonade-y”. Don’t put much stock into this quote.
THIN MINTS
Description: Crispy chocolate wafers dipped in a mint chocolaty coating.
Let’s face it, these are classics. These are the Michael Jordan of Girl Scout cookies. Business Insider stated Thin Mints are the #1 selling Girl Scout Cookie in America. In 2014, they made up 25% of total cookie sales. Raise your hands if you buy extra boxes to keep in your freezer?
The same niece earlier stated, “it taste lemonade-y”. Don’t put much stock into this quote.
Description: Savory slices of shortbread with a refreshingly tangy lemon flavored icing.
In recent years, Lemonades have shot up as my favorite of all available flavors. The lemon flavored icing is so refreshing. It doesn’t have that heavy chocolate or peanut butter aftertaste. Most kids may not like this because of their addiction to chocolate but for adults, you’ll love it.
The same niece from earlier didn’t even finish her cookie. Must not have been lemonade-y enough for her.
CRANBERRY CITRUS CRISPS
Description: Crispy cookie, made with whole grain, full of tangy cranberry bits and zesty citrus flavor.
The feedback from everybody on these newer cookies weren’t as great as all the other flavors. If you love citrus flavors, this could be for you. The first bite in you can really taste the cranberry followed by a strong citrus aftertaste. Some co-workers stated it would be a great dipping cookie with tea or something similar. I wouldn’t buy this box for kids though. it went 0-5 for me.
THANKS-A-LOT
Description: Shortbread cookies dipped in rich fudge and topped with an embossed thank you message in one of 5 languages.
This was a favorite by many as well due to it’s combination of a classic shortbread cookie with a layer of fudge on bottom. It’s a simple cookie done right. To make things even better, it’s a learning tool helping you say thank you in five different languages. Knowledge and Deliciousness…………what an excellent combo!
SHORTBREAD
Description: Traditional shortbread cookies.
What you see from this cookie is what you get. This is a no frills, no gimmicks type of cookie. Either you like the shortbread or you don’t. I was surprised to see this was the 5th best selling cookie of all the ones available. There’s still a box of these sitting on my desk waiting for people to come grab them.
TRIOS
Description: Chocolate chips nestled in a gluten free peanut butter oatmeal cookie.
Introduced in 2015, these cookies gave those people who are Gluten-Free to enjoy in the goodness that are Girl Scout Cookies. They are the only cookies made available in a resealable pouch. There is some good flavor to these cookies with the oats, peanut butter and chocolate chip but by all accounts these cookies are a bit dry. Be sure to have a glass of milk ready (or if you’re me a glass of water) if you’re going to try the Trios. I know last year, these cookies sold out quickly so get ahead of the curve and buy them while you can.
CARAMEL DELITES
Description: Vanilla cookies topped with caramel, sprinkled with toasted coconut, and laced with chocolaty stripes.
Caramel….. chocolate….. coconut….. vanilla cookie….. is there anything this cookie doesn’t have? There are so many flavors packed into this cookie it’s no surprise Caramel deLites are the second best selling Girl Scout cookie. The best part about these are the holes in the middle of the cookie. You can hold at least ten Caramel deLites by placing one cookie down each finger. It’s awesome and efficient!
==============================================
I asked all the kids their favorite cookies at the end of our sugar high. I was told five stood out among the nine: Caramel deLites, Peanut Butter Sandwiches, Peanut Butter Patties, Thin Mints and Shortbread.
Please keep in mind that the child who said shortbread took one nibble out of it and thought three previous cookies tasted “Lemonade-y”.
So do yourself a favor and get out and buy yourself some boxes of these delicious cookies.
Remember that when you buy Girl Scout Cookies, you help fund new adventures and life-changing opportunities for girls—from trips to our nation’s capital to community projects, summer camp, and charitable donations. The more cookies you buy, the more you help today’s girls develop into tomorrow’s leaders.
……..and thanks to these wonderful kids for helping out with this blog. Up next, Boy Scouts popcorn and trash bags review by them?
Happy Dining!
