Cheezies Pizza Review: Is the bargain pizza worth it?

Everybody has those little restaurants they constantly drive by and never go in. There was one that my colleagues and I have talked about many times and decided to finally give them a try. It’s Cheezies Pizza!

For the purpose of our review, we stopped by the location connected to Tracy’s Automotive on 1st street.

Cheezies Pizza is best described as your carry out bargain pizza spot. They specialize in 14 inch $5.99 one topping pizzas. Their competition is likely Little Caesar’s and their $5 pizzas. For what it’s worth, Cheezies is actually a national chain with three franchises here in Wichita.

On our visit, my coworkers and I ordered five different pizzas. We ordered some of their one topping pizzas at $5.99 and then some of their specialty pizzas like their Deluxe and Lotz-A-Meat for $9.99. We also ordered a couple “Specialty Calizones” for $9.99 and twenty wings. Here’s a sampling of what we ordered:

At $5.99, we were quite impressed with their one topping pizzas. The crust was decent, the sauce was above average and it wasn’t overly greasy. At that price, we were very happy with the pizzas. The specialty pizzas, on the other hand, we didn’t find to be quite worth it. While we were pleased with the pizzas, for $10 we could have scored some better quality pizzas around town. For a bargain eater though, you can’t go wrong with their one topping pizzas.

The “specialty calizones” were humongous. One is more than enough for an individual. It’s loaded with cheese (thus the name) and toppings. This is probably best shared with another person if you order it.

As for the wings, they were similar to the pizza in the fact that they aren’t going to wow anyone but they are satisfying enough to make you feel like you didn’t waste your money.

One big drawback was the service. They had one person who handled being the cashier, taking orders, making the pizzas and even being the delivery guy. He did it all so it wasn’t his fault the service was slow. He could only do so much. We actually asked him what happens if he has to deliver a pizza being the only guy in the building. He told us he has to call another store for help in that case. We just found that to be incredibly inefficient but also a sign that they weren’t busy.

All in all we weren’t extremely impressed by Cheezies nor were we let down. It is certainly above the quality of Little Caesar’s if they are considered the standard for bargain pizza. Otherwise, just don’t have your expectations thru the roof when giving Cheezies a try.
