For three years now, we’ve had a little feature at Wichita By E.B. called “Must Try Menu Item” where we go over a particular menu item that you should try at least once.
For this edition of the Must Try Menu Item, we head over to Promise Thai Cuisine at Greenwich and Kellogg. For one of the least talked about Thai restaurants in Wichita, this is one that deserves a bit more love. Owned by one of the nicest couples you’ll ever come across in town, they provide delicious food to match. After multiple visits, I’ve stumbled upon something I just love so much: their squid salad.
The squid salad at Promise Thai Cuisine comes with large chunks of steamed squid, sliced cucumbers, tomatoes and red onions. It’s then topped with spicy lime dressing and served on a fresh lettuce. At $8.95, it’s great considering the amount of squid that comes in the dish. You can also order it as spicy as you’d like it. Boa, the owner, will ask you how spicy you want it on a 1 to 5 scale. I usually get it at a 3 or 4 as a 5 will have me chugging down gallons of milk which is bad considering I’m lactose intolerant.
It’s a very light dish that provides so much flavor. You may be a little shocked at the portion size when it arrives at the table but it’s enough to fill you up and not leave you so bloated. I’m sure there’s a contingent of readers who don’t eat seafood but if you’re looking to venture outside of the box one time, give this a try.
