When it comes to restaurants dedicated to Philly cheesesteaks, we are limited such places as T.O.P.S., Philly Inc, Pepperjax Grill and the subject of our latest review, Charley’s Philly Steaks. There is one located at Towne East Mall in the food court. I stopped by to check it out and see how it compared to the competition.

Charley’s Philly Steaks is a national chain based out of Columbus, OH that has been in Wichita a little over five years now. There’s actually one at McConnell Air Force Base as well.
I figured it would make the most sense to order a basic Philly cheesesteak with fries. When you get your fries, there are plenty of seasonings to choose from. They recommended jalapeno lime so that’s what I went with.
It take maybe five or so minutes for my food to be done. Once I started eating, I’ll admit right away it wasn’t on the level of T.O.P.S. or Philly Inc. My sandwich tasted like upgraded mall food. It wasn’t bad; it was just really kind of meh to me. The meat lacked that freshness in each bite. The vegetables on it also tasted a little stale and old. It was as if I ordered a fast food Philly cheesesteak. Surprise! I did.
The bread which I’ve learned is an extremely important part of any Philly cheesesteak was very average. What I did love was the seasoning on my fries; I ended up inhaling most of it.
When it comes to mall food, one may probably be alright with Charley’s Philly Cheesesteaks. It wasn’t anything to write home about.
The service was alright after the guys in the back stopped playing on their phones and realized I was standing outside waiting to order. This is certainly not a place going out of your way for.

It’s not a good steak sandwich for the price. I’m from Philly so I do know cheese steak that was not even a steak but nice try
