Earlier this summer, a new fusion restaurant opened that features steak, seafood, pork and chicken dishes. What was originally supposed to be a teahouse is now beautifully remodeled restaurant known asĀ The Sweet Spot. This has long been on our list to try since they opened and we can now write about it.

The Sweet Spot sits in the former Genghis Grill and Krispy Kreme location. I was taken back by the restaurant’s transformation. The owners did a remarkable job with everything.
We sat in the bar area and were promptly given our drinks. We started off our dinner with a couple appetizers: edamame and their signature appetizer, Sweet Spot shrimp which was lightly battered shrimp in housemade sweet chili sauce. Both were excellent. For starters, you can’t mess up edamame at least I have yet to find a restaurant that has. As for the Sweet Spot shrimp, it also included sweet potato fries that were soaked in the sweet chili sauce. It was delicious. I loved their sauce and nearly ate the entire appetizer by myself.
We were also given complimentary rolls which was an additional plus.
For our main course, I ordered the New Zealand spring lamb lollipops while my girlfriend opted for one of their specials, the Thai steak salad. After a few bites into our meals, we kind of looked at each other and had the same feeling. We weren’t overly impressed with it. It wasn’t that the food was horrible, it just didn’t resonate with us. The lamb lollipops were a little on the dry side even with the mint chimmichurri. The bed of succotash and herb roasted tomatoes didn’t offer much to improve the meal. The Thai steak came as a recommendation to us and wasn’t anything too special. The salad was fresh but we think it was the deep roasted sesame dressing that knocked it down a notch.
Perhaps this was one of those instances where we just ordered the wrong thing because given their reviews, it appears they have built up a great following.
There is one area where the Sweet Spot stuck out and it was the service. Everything was impeccable. From the attentiveness to the timing to the friendliness, they received an A+ for their efforts. Our server was wonderful; she stopped by many times to check on us but not to the point it was annoying. Our server alone was enough to give me a reason to go back to see if I could find something better on the menu.
Here’s their menu.
Happy Dining,
Eddy
