ABOUT THE OWNER
Lory Silva- I was born in Oklahoma and was raised on all of the home cooked “Okie” classics such as fried chicken and catfish. We also enjoyed foods like roast, pot pie, casseroles, and lots of various soups and stews. My family has a serious sweet tooth and passed the love of all baked goods on to me! We were very resourceful when we cooked most of the meals, as we didn’t have a lot of money; however, we had to feed a large number of people food that tasted delicious. When I got to high school I met my now husband Steve. My husband and I are high school sweethearts, so I learned a lot from his mother and family about their favorite Mexican comfort foods such as our incredibly popular fried flour taco meals! My husband and his family are very proud of their Mexican-American heritage and they love to share their experience and culture with others.
ABOUT THE BUSINESS
Homegirl’z Kitchen is a Goddard based food truck that features comfort food classics as well as unique menu items and specials. Our main focus is American and Mexican-American classic comfort foods. Mainstays on our menu are the classic Mexican-American fried flour tacos served with refried beans and rice. We also serve various styles of quesadillas, and our popular Grill-a-Mac, which is a truck-made 4 cheese macaroni that is griddle fried with grilled jalapeno and onions and placed over butter grilled Texas Toast. Most of our menu items are also available with our personally smoked pulled pork. We also love the popular New Mexican Hatch Chile, and when in season you can find them on our menu.
WHY I STARTED THE BUSINESS
I receive great satisfaction from seeing people enjoy amazing, flavorful foods that I have made myself. I was able to do this at workplace parties, family gatherings, and with willing neighbors. Though I thoroughly enjoyed this, I decided to take my love of food and happiness on a larger scale, and make it mobile and accessible to the people of the greater Wichita area.
MOST POPULAR ITEM
Our fried flour taco meal is by far the best selling menu item we have. It consists of a fried flour taco containing ground beef and potatoes simmered in chilies and spices that are sourced mainly from local businesses. Of course, this is topped with cheese, lettuce, and your choice of hot or mild salsa. You are more than welcome to customize your taco any way you like! As a side we serve our flavorful truck-made refried beans and rice.
