If you love a good deal, I highly recommend San Salvador Cafe. Every Tuesday they have 4 pupusas for $5. Third grade math (or if you’re in my shoes 8th grade math) tells us that equates to $1.25 a piece!
The pupusas change from week to week. Today, we stopped by and it was pork and cheese pupusas. We split an order of four and it made for a light solid lunch that didn’t leave us feeling stuffed the rest of the day. We were easily satisfied. Every week, you can check their Facebook to see what they have.
Pupusas look so simple but are one of my favorite little dishes and San Salvador has just as good a pupusa as anyone. For those dining in, you get a big huge jar of pickled cabbage along with mild and hot sauce. I’m in favor of the hot but it may be a little spicy for some.
If pupusas aren’t your thing, I highly recommend pickled cabbage with a side of pupusas.
Also many people had issues with their hours when they first opened since they closed at 5pm making it hard for many people to stop by. While it wasn’t a major change, they now close at 6pm on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. So if you call in your order after you get off work, it should give a little leeway.
Pupusas at any restaurant do take a little time so calling ahead helps. If not, be prepared for a little wait. Aside from that, the ladies there are extremely nice and gracious. While it’s out of the way for me, it’s definitely somewhere I’ll stop by occasionally for food. Driving 5-10 minutes outside of your comfort zone for good food never hurt anybody.
