Wichita has been hit hard by the announcement Spirit Aerosystems will be laying off 2,800 workers by the end of January. The ripple effect will likely continue on from there to other companies. United Way is doing what they can by setting up a “Laid-Off Workers Fund” to help those people who have recently been let go from jobs in Sedgwick County.
Money from the fund will help those affected pay bills like rent, utilities, mortgages directly to the landlords or utility companies.
United Way will soon announce how people can apply for this fund in the near future. Until then, if you’d like to help with the fund, you can click here to find out how to donate.
Also, there are certain restaurants who will be donating a percentage of sales to United Way as part of Dine Out Wichita such as Taco Locale, Il Vicino and Oak & Pie. Learn more at www.dineoutwichita.com.
