The Hunger Games: a Wichita Restaurant Tournament Bracket

With COVID-19 causing the cancellation of Selection Sunday, we were all left without a bracket to look at.

Wichita By E.B. is here to save the day. The staff worked long and hard to build a bracket of 68 restaurants in Wichita and it’ll be up to YOU to decide who advances and who gets their One Shining Moment as the 2020 Champion.

The bracket consisted of 68 restaurants that are local to Wichita. Our biggest requirement was each restaurant could only be found in Wichita. If restaurants had a location outside the Wichita area, they were disqualified from this particular bracket.

Like the NCAA Tournament, this bracket was split up into four regions: West, East, South and Central. The Central region consisted mostly of Downtown, Delano, parts of the Douglas Design District and Midtown area. To make things easier, The West/East barrier was set at Main street. For restaurants with multiple locations, I tried to stick with their original location. Breaking down, narrowing, finalizing and seeding the restaurants was one of the hardest things to write. There were at least a dozen restaurants I knew would be worthy but just had to make cuts. So with that said in my best Greg Gumbel impression, let’s check out each region.

And just like the NCAA Tournament, there are four play-in games or as we call them Dine-In Games.

So how will the voting take place? Polls will be conducted on Wichita By E.B.’s various social media sites. You can find them on our web page, Twitter page, Facebook, Instagram Stories, and our Facebook group. It’ll be spread out similar to how the NCAA Tournament handles their games on TruTV, TBS, TNT and CBS.

REMEMBER since we always have to place a disclaimer, this bracket doesn’t necessarily mean the winner is the best. It’s a small sample size of the general population but it’s the favorite according to our readers. So if your favorite place doesn’t win, please cry to your parents….. not me. Like our past social media voting, this all comes down to social media support. In the end, I hope you can find some new pizza places you may have never heard of or tried! And just like any previous bracket, I will not be voting in any bracket. This will be left strictly to the general audience.

I do have ONE REQUEST. When you vote, ask yourself if you’re voting for what you truly feel is the BEST or if you’re just voting to support said place based on other reasons. Obviously there is no way to regulate it but I just wanted to throw that out there.

Starting this week, you will find a poll featuring one restaurant matchup on one of our various social media pages to vote for your favorite.
