Over the past month, fans and diners have been begging Gabby Kruskamp not to close her restaurant, Gabby’s Peruvian Restaurant. Once word came out of the closing, people came out over the past few weekends in support of what they thought would be their last traditional Peruvian meal in a Wichita restaurant.
Kruskamp was pretty adamant on closing noting she was losing money and struggling to stay afloat. I even asked her if there was any chance she’d stay open in some capacity like catering or a home-based business. But she told me once COVID-19 began, the restaurant was operating at a loss. It was a tough decision, one that she never wanted to make.
But when she made her decision to close, fans flocked at the opportunity to support the struggling restaurant. Her friends, regulars, and new diners continued to ask her not to close during that time.
Gabby’s Peruvian Restaurant then closed over the weekend and Kruskamp thought long and hard about all the feedback. After seeing turnout, Kruskamp is hoping everybody who asked her to remain open will be there for the long haul. I spoke to her this morning, and she said that they will take a couple of weeks off to regroup and reopen the restaurant on August 28.
Like before, they will only be open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11:30 to 8pm for carryout, delivery and limited dine-in.
If you’ve still never been, the five-year-old restaurant is located at 1002 S. Seneca.
Gabby’s Peruvian Restaurant will go public with the news on their Facebook page later this week, but she gave me her blessing to pass the word on earlier.
Happy Dining,
Eddy
