Have you ever been to the Wichita Asian Festival? It’s a weekend event held here in Wichita that highlights the many different Asian cultures in respect to food, art and more. While the event was postponed this year due to COVID-19, it’s a must for any food lover who loves to try new things. One of those vendors is Komugi -Japanese Bakery-. It’s a home-based business operated by two ladies from Japan who want to provide Wichita with Japanese pastries native to their home country.

I came across Komugi’s Facebook page and saw they were accepting orders for cakes. At the current moment, orders can be placed by emailing komugi.jpks2020@gmail.com. They require a 7-day lead for all orders.
For now, pickup is the only option for the pastries and those locations are in east Wichita and Andover. I had an event to attend over the weekend and figured this would be the perfect place to pick up some dessert.
I saw they had a triple berry roll cake that looked delicious. From the pictures, so I knew it had to be good. I emailed in an order for their large which came out to $32 plus tax.
Just take a look at this goodness.
It had a sponge cake texture and was filled with strawberry cream and an assortment of berries. It was light, refreshing and delicious. I went through three slices and had to stop so others could have some.
I grew up on all sorts of different Asian pastries and this cake from Komugi brought back many memories.
The ladies I emailed were very easy to communicate with and the cake was ready exactly at the time they committed to. It was nice to be able to bring something different many people likely never had before. Introducing people to new foods is always fun.
Komugi Japanese Bakery also makes other pastries. I’ve included a copy of their menu below. Otherwise, be sure to follow Komugji Japanese Bakery on Facebook for more.
Happy Dining
