If you’re looking for a really cool dining experience from a visual and taste perspective, hot pot is right up there with the best. There aren’t too many places in Wichita where it’s available especially in northeast Wichita but Crafted is ending that.
Starting Monday, October 19, they will have it on their menu after 4pm.
For the uninitiated, hot pot is a cooking method prepared with a simmering pot of soup stock at the dining table. The meat and/or seafood in the bowl cook right in front of you. Many times, hot pot is served in big bowls and served family style.
At Crafted, their hot pot is served in an individual setting which is perfect given everything going on in the world.
The process is very simple. First you choose the meat you want in your hot pot. The options include vegetarian, beef, seafood or a combination. Then there are three different broths: miso, shoyu and hot Mongolian. You can have the broths prepared spicy.
Each hot pot comes with udon noodles, bok choy, enoki mushrooms, and nappa cabbage.
What’s nice about hot pot is it’s about as fresh as you can get. Everybody who was with me placed their orders and it didn’t take long for them to arrive.
When the bowls were brought out, our server poured the broth into them.
Once the broth was poured in, they lit the bowls up underneath and we waited for everything to boil up and cook itself. I would have taken a full video of the experience but a certain baby in my arms refused to cooperate and inconvenience her for the sake of food blogging.
After 5-10 minutes, everything was ready to go.
I loved the whole experience of hot pot and everybody who was with me did as well. My favorite about the whole bowl was probably the udon noodles. In the noodle world, those are my favorite.
If you have never tried hot pot, this is certainly an experience worth dining for. Like I said, there are only a few places in town with it that I know of. But for northeast Wichita, this is all I know of.
