With the city opening up, it’s time to bring back our weekly suggestions of what’s going on in Wichita. This used to be a weekly highlight before the pandemic but it’s time to revive the popular feature! I’ve searched high and low for what’s fun to do in town and the surrounding area.

3 Food Truck Openings | June 10 and June 12

The Big Nerd has their grand opening in Mulvane, KS on Thursday at Jane’s Landing at 1002 N. 2nd Avenue from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Some food trucks are set to debut on Saturday. Vella’s Exotic Egg Roll Food Truck makes their first outing at 305 N. West Street from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Then you have Big Granny’s debuting 4726 E. Douglas Avenue from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Smoke on the Plains BBQ & Music Fest | June 10 – 12

After a year hiatus, the City of Derby returns for the 10th Annual Smoke on the Plains Derby BBQ & Music Fest June 10, 11 and 12, 2021 at scenic High Park, located on the east side of Derby. This free, fun and family-friendly event is Derby’s largest gathering.

The carnival will be held June 10, 11 & 12 at Field Station: Dinosaurs, 2999 N. Rock Rd.

Food Truck Thursdays at Exploration Place | June 10

Food Truck Thursdays takes place every Thursday at Exploration Place. Different food trucks will be on hand every Thursday. Grab a drink from the bar, jam out to live music, play games, and more all while you enjoy our scenic view of the Keeper of the Plains. Plus, bring the whole family to check out their exhibits.

The event is free for EP members. Guest rates run $15 in advance or $20 per car at the gate.

Bradley Fair Summer Concert Series | June 10

Bradley Fair’s 5-week concert series which allows you to enjoy live music under the sunset takes place Thursday starting at 7:30 pm.

Thursday’s lineup features Musicians of the Wichita Symphony – An orchestra made up of experienced and skilled musicians from across the globe.

Ballet in the Park | June 10 – 13

Join Ballet Wichita as they present Ballet in the Park 2021: Carnival of Animals. The event takes place throughout the Wichita area. It’s a free event for families. For more information, visit their webpage.

Disney On Ice Presents Mickey’s Ice Search | June 10 – 13

Join the magical search and help unlock an epic journey when Disney On Ice presents Mickey’s Search Party. This is perfect for kids. Tickets can be purchased at Select-A-Seat.

Wichita Wings | June 11 – 12

When’s the last time you caught a Wing’s game? The Wings host the Amarillo Bombers this weekend at Hartman Arena. Tickets can be purchased at the Hartman Arena website.

Douglas Dessert Festival  | June 11 – 13

This event has been designed to give foodies the chance to try out many of the dessert options available in College Hill. No Bake Cafe, Papa’s General Store, Himali Eats, The Teahouse, Fox & Thistle and the yet to be opened Andy’s Frozen Custard will be giving out free samples and discounts from June 11 to 13.

All-You-Can-Eat Crawfish | June 12

Gar Joe’s Crawfish’s is hosting an all-you-can-eat crawfish event on Saturday, June 12. The event starts at 12 p.m. Tickets must be pre-purchased in advance by end of day Thursday. They are $35 a piece. Visit their event page for more information.

Tanganyika Twilight Tour | June 12

Join Tanganyika on Twilight Tour night and support a great cause. Enjoy the best behind-the-scenes wildlife adventure held only once a year at Tanganyika. 100% of your tickets and auction proceeds go to our winter fund to support the care of endangered species. On Saturday, June 12, Tanganyika has designed the evening to be 100% interactive, quality over quantity. We want to involve you so you never forget.

Benefit for Lynny | June 13

Central Standard Brewery and Brazita Bites are hosting a fundraiser for Lynny Poell who was the victim of a hit-and-run. 50% of all food and drink sales will go to benefit Lynny and her family. The benefit runs from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Central Standard Brewery at 156 S Greenwood St.
