Penumbra International reveals $1.5 billion plan for Century II and River Walk

On Tuesday, a group called Penumbra International LLC unveiled their plans for the Century II and Wichita River Walk property that would cost $1.5 billion.

There was a lot mentioned, including adding an International Air and Space Museum, turning the former downtown library into an Oceanic History Aquarium, a 700 room hotel and convention center with a space eye observation wheel, a new downtown convention and exhibition center, an International Market, and even a roller coaster built downtown.

One signature feature of the Riverwalk according to their website will be at the Top of the Town of Wichita. Situated on the top floor of the new hotel will be one of the hottest rooftop restaurants in the world. Yes, they went as far to say THE WORLD!

Everything laid out would be completed in one phase and would cost $1.5 billion. An interesting point is they said, none of it would come from city, state or federal money. Penumbra International LLC said the money is already committed, but have not revealed who the sources are. I want to ask them if its from the same people who brought the monorail to the Simpsons.

To be completely honest, all of this sounds too good to be true but who knows. I’m not sure what to make of it yet. It’s too early to tell, as the city still has lots of questions yet to be answered. Am I intrigued? Of course, but I’m not holding my breath right now.
