In case you missed it, the Midwest Winefest recently took place in Old Town with their Walkabout and the Reserve Room. This is one event I’ve never been to and finally had the opportunity to stop by.
I’m not a huge wine guy, but still had a great time…. and managed to drink a ton of red wine in the process.
Checking in at the Old Town District was a breeze where everybody was given a wine glass and a plate to hold food. The plate also had a nifty little spot to hold your wine glass.
From there, you could walk around the Old Town District and sample food from various local restaurants and a variety of wines. The Wichita Wagonmasters were dishing out meat, Angelo’s had lasagna, Yo-B had frozen yogurt, and my favorite two stops of the night were Gabby’s Peruvian Carryout and Molino’s Cuisine were giving out delicious meals I returned multiple times for.
They also gave a car away on Thursday. The gambler in me, bought a raffle ticket, but of course I didn’t win.
If you didn’t know, the proceeds of Midwest Winefest benefit the Guadalupe Health Foundation, whose mission is to support the poor and uninsured patients of Guadalupe Clinic. It’s the only free full-time clinic in the state. The patients that come to the clinic are all uninsured (no private insurance, Medicare, or Medicaid) and their income is within 250% of the Federal Poverty Level. While they mainly do primary care, they also have several specialists for their patients to see. There is one paid Physician Assistant at each clinic, and the rest of the doctors and specialists volunteer their time – as little as 4 hours a month – to see patients. All of their services and specialties can be found on their website: https://www.guadalupeclinic.org
We also took this video of the event for those who love a different visual:
