First Look at Pupuseria El Torogoz

Pupuseria El Torogoz

Wichita has another place in town for Salvadoran food with the arrival of Pupuseria El Torogoz. The new restaurant opened over the weekend and, similar to their competitors, they are open for just breakfast and lunch. This once again leaves us with limited options for Salvadoran food at dinner time. But I can’t blame them because I don’t like working in the evening either.

Pupuseria El Torogoz is located inside a former Snip N Clips space but you probably wouldn’t even know stepping inside.

Our YouTube page has a video short inside you can watch here.

All diners received complimentary chips and salsa upon arrival. The salsa had some heat! Who needed coffee to wake you up when this hot salsa was an option.

I arrived during breakfast and my server suggested their breakfast #2 option which included fried plantain, chorizo, casamiento (Salvadoran beans and rice), and cream. At first glance, I was wondering if this was going to be enough food. This was certainly plenty. The plantains were delicious and sweet. I could have easily just had those for breakfast. All the other savory options helped counter the plantains as well as providing much more substance to fill me up.

Even though I was full, I couldn’t leave without ordering pupusas. I had two revuelta (pork, bean and cheese). They came out fairly quickly. These pupusas weren’t light on filling, either. There was plenty of pork, bean and cheese to go around. They were easy to cut into and were pretty yummy.

The ladies working were very nice, and the service was quick.

I’m a huge fan of Salvadoran food, but am curious why would they open a couple of blocks from Restaurante Usuluteco.  But I suppose if Saigon and Little Saigon can co-exist for years, this just might work too.

Here’s their menu:

Happy Dining,
Eddy
