A rite of passage for any 21+ year old in Wichita is to spend at least one evening at Mort’s Martini and Cigar Bar. Whether it’s hanging out on their patio, getting half-price martinis on Monday, chowing down on some delicious popcorn, or catching live music, it’s certainly a bucket list bar that’s been here for 25 years.

We had part of the afternoon off and decided to swing by Mort’s as it has been some time since our last visit. It’s been a while, so I had no idea they transformed their patio to make it more accessible at all times of the year. Whether it’s fans during the summer or heaters during the winter, their patio, which overlooks 1st street, is a great hangout anytime they are open. Towards the end of our time there, they had live acoustic music.
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the jalapeno popcorn. It’s one of my top two favorite popcorns in all of Wichita (with the other being the pickle popcorn at The Popcorner). This complimentary jalapeno popcorn offers a nice bit of heat that pairs well with any drink. Plus it keeps you wanting to drink more, brilliant.
The menu of drinks offers so much to choose from. I honestly don’t know if there are more martinis to pick from at Mort’s or more dishes on the Cheesecake Factory menu. Even more impressive are the servers’ knowledge of the martinis. Our particular server could tell us what every martini consisted of. I was floored, as I can’t even remember what I had for dinner the day before.
With so many drinks, there’s something on the menu for everyone. One of my favorite cocktails is the bloody mary at Mort’s. It’s simple yet delicious. Give me that and some jalapeno popcorn, and I’m in heaven.
If you love a good watering hole and never been to Mort’s, you’re doing yourself an injustice.
