Tacos El Sol Revisited: One of our favorite burritos and tacos in Wichita

Tacos El Sol

I have a rotation of restaurants and food trucks I try to frequent as much as I can. It doesn’t matter whether I have to drive across town or the time of night. I’m a believer in consistently supporting the places you truly love, and Tacos El Sol is one of them. The food truck is parked at 31st and Meridian, at the same intersection as Davis Liquor.

Tacos El Sol, also known as El Sol de Michoacan Tacos Performance as listed on their Facebook page, specializes in tacos, tortas, burritos, ceviche, and more. The meats include asada, al pastor, carnitas, buche, pollo, barbacoa, cabeza, and lengua.

The very first time we ever stopped by Tacos El Sol, we were hooked. It’s one of those moments where you knew you’d always be a customer after the first bite.

I was in southwest Wichita on a Friday night and decided to swing by.

To kick things off, I ordered the smothered green chili pork burrito. In a city full of burrito options, this is hands down my favorite burrito of the bunch. You need to make sure it’s smothered. The green chili sauce is loaded with flavor and doesn’t pack too much heat, so it’s great for anybody. At $8.00, it’s stuffed to the max and will fill appetites of all sizes. Next time, I’ll weigh it, as I’m sure it’s as heavy as my daughter.

And any visit to Tacos El Sol has to include tacos. Their al pastor tacos are Megan’s favorite in all of Wichita. So much that if we are fighting, all I have to do is go pick up some of their al pastor tacos and it’s like nothing happened. Tacos are the way to anybody’s heart; be sure to follow me for more relationship advice.

I love all their tacos, but mostly stick to buche, cabeza and lengua.

And when you talk about family locally owned spots in town, this is truly a family affair. On some nights, you’ll find three generations of the same family inside, all working together. It’s a true team effort with nothing but love, and it’s wonderful.
