First Look at The Eatery

The space held by Pam’s Wings with Things was not vacant for long, as a new restaurant has taken over. The Eatery has opened at 3928 E. 13th St. N and is advertised as a soul food restaurant.

Walking in, the interior was essentially the same look and feel as every restaurant that used to be in the space.

The menu featured fish and chicken dinners, burgers, hot links, and Philly cheesesteaks. All the options seemed similar to the basic offerings found at any other soul food restaurant that opens, which is always wings, catfish, and burgers.

But with that said, I went with their most popular option called The Eatery, which included 2 pieces of catfish and 10 wings. The wing flavors were similar to the previous restaurants in there before. I saw sweet heat as an option and went with that.

For my two pieces of catfish, I had collard greens as my side. Both were fantastic. While the catfish was pretty thin, I thoroughly enjoyed the breading and the seasoning on it; very flavorful and didn’t really need any sauce of any sort.

As for the sweet heat wings, they were very reminiscent of Val’s Wings with Things; a bit of sweetness at the start followed by a punch of heat. The wings were very meaty. That’s something to keep in mind, as I’m sure there will be some eyebrows raised when they see the $2 per wing price point.

All in all, I really did enjoy what I had at The Eatery. The food was good and fairly quick for wings and catfish, especially when you compare it to other soul food places which do take some time.
