Is Subway as good as Patrick Mahomes says it is? Let’s find out.

Subway

Let’s revisit Subway!

Known as the largest restaurant operated in the world with over 41,000 locations worldwide, Subway is a chain that primarily sells subs. More than half of those 41,000 stores are in the U.S. and at least ten of them in the Wichita area. And it feels like there may be 30 in Derby, KS.

Subway started in 1965 and was known as “Pete’s Super Submarines” in Bridgeport, CT. In 1968, the sandwich shop would be renamed to “Subway”. The chain has put on a huge marketing blitz in the past year, unveiling new sandwich options with many popular stars like Patrick Mahomes, Steph Curry, Tony Romo, and Derek Jeter. Mahomes is now the lead spokesperson for Subway and says he prefers the chain. So I wanted to see if it was really that good.

With plenty of locations, we stopped by the northwest location at 3704 N. Maize Road.

Upon walking inside, we were concerned whether our sandwiches would be good. Like any chain or any restaurant, a big factor is the employees who are there. Our Subway “sandwich artist” seemed very disinterested when we arrived. The young gentleman had the vibe he did NOT want to be there at all.

We ordered The Outlaw and the Teriyaki Blitz and proceeded to watch our sandwich artist to toss the ingredients like my toddler upset putting her toys away.

He handed us our sandwiches and gave us a look that felt like he was saying, “Take this, leave, as I need to get back to playing Clash of Clans on my phone.”

Our subs tasted uninspired, like the service. My Outlaw sub had small meat portions. It was like I ordered a veggie sub with loads of sweet onion teriyaki sauce and a small side of steak. For $12.29, I could probably make a list of 500 better things I could have ordered at other restaurants at the price point.

Here’s the real question I was asking myself while I eating. “Why did I even go here?” That was followed by, “Patrick, your brother should be representing Subway, not you. You deserve better.”

Here’s the menu:

Happy Dining,
