There’s a list of restaurants not too far outside of Wichita I’ve been wanting to visit, and The Cajun Crab has been at the top of the list. It’s a restaurant located in Newton, KS that’s been open for less than a year. The owner used to run a food truck in Oklahoma and moved to Newton, where he took over the former Kiko’s space.

As you can probably guess from the name, The Cajun Crab is a seafood restaurant that specializes in boils and Cajun dishes. I’m a sucker for both and finally made the drive out to Newton, KS.
The interior does not provide much seating. There are a couple two-tops and a row of bar seating for maybe 4 people. This is not a place to bring big parties of people; you’ll want to stick with carryout.
Fortunately, there was a seat available when I arrived. I went with the Cajun Crab seafood boil for 1 that included a cluster of snow crab, 1/2 pound of shrimp, 2 potatoes, 1 corn, 1 boiled egg and 1 sausage. There were different spice levels to choose from. While I typically would have gone with hot or something spicier, I opted to go with mild to give my stomach a nice ride home with no issues.
It took maybe 10 minutes or so for my food to arrive.
Then I proceeded to take the worst picture of a seafood boil. This does not properly represent the amount of food in the bag. I should have opened the bag all the way, but I was starving and lacked any patience. This bag of food at the Cajun Crab was calling my name, and snapping one picture was all I was prepared to do.
The food was excellent. I loved the mild sauce along with the seasoning, which was full of flavor. It took me maybe 5 minutes or so to go through the 1/2 pound of shrimp; I should have ordered more. Hell, I should have ordered more of everything. The snow crab was easily my favorite. If I wasn’t short on time, I would have stayed and purchased another cluster.
And since it was my turn to choose dinner for later that evening, I ordered crawfish mac to go. It sounded like a delicious dish and I figured my family would love it, and they did. We paired this pasta with some pork chops at home, and we couldn’t get enough of it. Bits of crawfish were sprinkled in with the noodles, and the best part of it was probably the sauce it was swimming in. The sauce alone was something I could see myself craving again in the future.
The food at The Cajun Crab made the drive to Newton totally worth it. I was impressed with everything I had and already want to return.
After finishing my food, I had a brief talk with the owner, and he seemed to genuinely love the food industry and what he does. This is one place people will have to add to their list.
