Open Streets ICT – Nomar, a FREE neighborhood community-building event along 21st Street for a day of biking, fun physical activities, music, dancing, and much more! We will be closing one mile of 21st Street to traffic from NoMar Market at Broadway Avenue to Woodland Park, and open the street for biking, walking, running, live music and dancing, entertainment, food, art, yoga, and more. Cruise along the one mile stretch and stop at our activity hubs, participating businesses, food, and street vendors.


■ Shockers Track & Field: Shocker Open | May 3
Where: Cessna Stadium
Wichita State Track & Field hosts senior day Friday May 3, at Cessna Stadium! Field events begin at 1:30. Senior Recognition is at 5pm with running events to follow. ■ Mulvane Optimist Club Spring Steak Feed | May 3
Where: Mulvane Rodeo Arena
Get ready for a sizzling spring evening with the Mulvane Optimist Club’s legendary Steak Feed! If you have been before than you know its a great evening with plenty of food and fun! Food service starts at 6 P.M., but gates open at 4:30 P.M. Feel free to arrive early to snag a prime spot and set up your chairs, music, and games.

We’ll have Face Stuffers, MOAB BBQ, The ‘Berg and Shaken or Stirred there, along with KDFI playing music. We’ll also have our all-new lineup of outdoor/patio furniture there for people to try. This event is open to the public – we’d love to see lots of people there!

CityArts hosts a First Friday Reception from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, May 3 for three new exhibits, which will be on view through June 2, 2024: Textura: A two -person exhibition of David and Susan Harmon, Companions in Fire by Aaron Jasso and Kelly Taylor and Patterncity by Ed Catt.

■ The Star Wars Kentucky Derby | May 4

May the 4th be with you! Star Wars day and the Kentucky Derby fall on the same day this year so we decided to celebrate both with our very own CiDerby. Teams of 2 will compete in a game of racing light sabers (no actual running needed) with the audience cheering them on. Wear a fancy hat, your Star Wars gear, a horse costume, or don’t dress up at all! All teams must be registered by 1:55 to participate in the derby but audience members can come anytime to cheer for their favorite Jedi or Sith. Prizes will be given to the top 3 teams. We want you to join us for a cider and some good Star Wars Ciderby fun!
