First look at Barks & Brews, Wichita’s first off-leash dog park and bar

Wichita’s first dog park and bar opened over the weekend at 1312 E. English. Barks & Brews has been a much anticipated arrival, especially for the dog lovers who want to bring their best friends with them to have a cool, tasty beverage.

We stopped by opening day to do some recon before bringing our dog.

Upon arriving to Barks & Brews, everyone must sign a waiver.

Entry is free for humans, but there is a fee for dogs.

There are daily bark passes which are $12 for a single dog (and $6 for a 2nd dog in the same family). You can also purchase 5 and 10-pack passes for $60-100. If you intend to be there a lot, there are membership subscriptions which start at $30 for a 30-day unlimited pass or $300 for an annual pass.

With Barks & Brews being a dog park, there are yard rules to follow. Some items that stick out include:

  • No one under the age of 16 is allowed.
  • Maximum of 2 dogs per member
  • Not outside dog toys are permitted
  • Dogs must be current on vaccinations including DHPP/DAPP, Bordetella, and Rabies. Dog parents must provide vaccination documentation.
  • Puppies must be older than 4 months of age and must show that they are current on puppy vaccinations.
  • Dogs over 1-year-old must be spayed or neutered to enter. No dog will be permitted while in heat. Any dogs seen to be repeatedly mounting may be asked to leave.

Off-leash areas are clearly marked. Dogs must be on-leash unless they are in the off-leash areas. Dogs must be off-leash while in the off-leash areas.

Members must clean up after their dog(s). All waste must be bagged and disposed of properly in the marked receptacles.

Once you are acclimated to the rules of Barks & Brews, it’s time to have some fun with your loved ones.

Barks & Brews

Barks & Brews is a full-service bar with no food service. I was told you could bring your own food, and they may have food trucks come out in the future.

Otherwise, there’s plenty of room for your dogs to roam and enjoy. There were probably 5–6 dogs out when we stopped by, and they all seemed to be living their best life.

The outdoor space was large with plenty of seating for visitors, some in shaded areas thanks to trees at the west end.

Barks & Brews

People often ask about pet-friendly places in Wichita, so I hope the city really embraces Barks & Brews and enjoys the newest hangout spot.

Here’s one menu I saw at the table:
