First look at Barrel Boys BBQ’s new brick & mortar restaurant

It’s been worth the wait for one of my favorite BBQ food trucks in town to open up their first brick & mortar restaurant. Barrel Boys BBQ, after years of competition BBQ along with running a food truck, finally opened their restaurant at 2202 W. 13th St. N.

The restaurant, two years in the making, celebrated their grand opening this month. I stopped by with some friends to finally check it out. Let’s go!

Trophies, ribbons, awards line the walls inside Barrel Boys BBQ. It’s all a confirmation of the hard work owner Buddy King and his family have put in over the years.

But more importantly, how about the food?

I had no idea what to order at Barrel Boys BBQ even though I’ve been to the truck countless of times, so I started rambling things off the menu until I realized I overordered. Does anybody else ever do that? It’s a good thing I had friends with me. My order consisted of hot links, brisket nachos, a half slab of ribs, and burnt ends.

My friends also ordered an assortment of items, and we just picked off each other’s plates and tried a bit of everything.

The food was just as good as I remember from the food truck.

The brisket and ribs were incredibly tender, which makes sense because the restaurant’s motto is “We Take It To Tender Town”. Those were easily my two favorite meats, but don’t sleep on the hot link or the turkey breast. Both were excellent. I only had one slice of the turkey breast but could have easily eaten more.

I think the favorite of all the sides was easily the cheese corn.

If I were to go back any weekend, the first thing I’d order would probably be the ribs.

We all thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Barrel Boys BBQ and mark my words, I’ll be back again soon.

At the moment, the hours are limited to Friday and Saturday at 11 a.m. but I was told that will expand over time.
