First Look at Uncle Scottie BBQ

Uncle Scottie's BBQ

A new BBQ restaurant has opened at 3851 S. Seneca in the former Nikki’s Poker Room space in southwest Wichita. Uncle Scottie BBQ just had their first day of business over the weekend.

I decided to swing by and get a first glimpse at what you can expect.

The inside was still a work in progress, but there was seating along with pool available. I heard that televisions could be on the way as well.

During my visit, they only had ribs and pulled pork available. I opted to go for the pulled pork sandwich meal which came with a side and a drink. And then, also ordered a 6 bone rib dinner with two sides. The only sides available were baked beans and green beans.

Both were ordered for carryout, and no option for BBQ sauce was given.

From a pure aesthetics perspective, it wasn’t the prettiest looking BBQ. At first glance, it looked a bit dry. I’ll add, though, the aroma was excellent. It was tough to drive home and not pull over on the side of the road to sneak a bite or two in.

But when we did get home, the meat fell off the bone easily and wasn’t as dry as it looked. The ribs were fairly meaty and had a nice smoky flavor to them. Could they have been a little juicier and more tender? No doubt, but from a flavor profile, I was quite pleased with what I received.

One of the kids had the pulled pork sandwich, and it was a beast and a half pound entrée. He devoured it, but then again he’s a teenager who’s an absolute carnivore.

As for the sides…. just simple, basic sides.

For BBQ in southwest Wichita, you’re pretty limited to options. Off the top of my head, there’s Julius Rib Cage on south Seneca and Hog Wild on 47th St. S. This could be another option for those looking for something a little closer. I think there’s some work to be done at Uncle Scottie BBQ, but I’d say it was an above-average stop for my first try.

And with something new, to provide more transparency, here’s my receipt. My total was $36 not including tax and tip.

Here’s the menu:

Happy Dining,
