I’m a sucker for holiday marketing gimmicks and promotions, so when I heard about The Grinch Meal from McDonald’s, I had to check it out.
What is the Grinch Meal?
The promotion started December 2 in a partnership with Dr. Seuss Enterprises and McDonald’s. The meal is available at participating restaurants nationwide for a limited time, while supplies last. It features Dill Pickle “Grinch Salt” McShaker Fries, arriving for the first time in the U.S.
McShaker Fries are McDonald’s french fries that come with a special McShaker bag and are accompanied by a side packet of seasoning. The seasoning packet is opened and poured into the bag, which is then shaken to complete the seasoning process.
While this is new to the United States, this concept started in 2005 in Hong Kong.
The Grinch Meal
While the fries can be ordered alone, I went with the full Grinch Meal, which included a Big Mac, fries, a McShaker bag, the Grinch salt (a.k.a. dill seasoning), and a pair of socks.
Keep in mind the socks can be different. My friend received a green pair while I got the blue. I read the socks are available in four colors: red, yellow, blue, and green.
The McShaker bag worked perfectly. It easily held the fries and was easy to shake. After about 30 seconds of shaking, I had some nicely coated fries.
I don’t eat McDonald’s as much as I used to; it’s typically limited to the McRib. But I have to hand it to Ronald and the rest of his crew. The dill pickle Grinch salt McShaker fries were fantastic. It had a heavy, tangy flavor to it, perfect for all dill lovers.
The packet of salt was plenty for a large order of fries. So much to go around. It’s so good, I would consider buying packets of the salt by itself.
As for the Big Mac, well, that didn’t sit too well with me. TMI, I know.
Regardless, I enjoyed the fries so much I plan to order them again and might just have to collect the socks. I’ll probably pass on the rest of the Grinch Meal.
