Over on north Broadway, you’ll find an authentic Mexican restaurant that’s tucked along the west side of the road where you’ll also find a million other Mexican restaurants. At the recommendation of a colleague, I stopped by recently to Menudos Norteños to see if this place was able to separate themselves over the rest of the competition.

With no real web presence, don’t believe what you see on Google or anywhere else for their hours or menu as some of it is incorrect. Their hours are different from what you’d find on Google or Yelp. As for their menu, here’s what they serve:
The place was also larger and more spacious than I had envisioned the multiple times I’d drive by there.
For lunch, I ordered each one of the tacos they had available on the menu: barbacoa, asada, al pastor, and tripas. Then I also ordered two gorditas: rojo and raja.
The food didn’t take long to arrive. You’re given a bowl of additional toppings if you want to change up your tacos. A part of me wondered if the bowl I was given was also used by the past 100 or so patrons. I’m not exactly a germophobe but on that particular day passed on using any of those toppings. I’m not sure they would have helped either as I found the tacos to be mostly flavorless and bland. The tripas were a little chewy which isn’t my thing. I’m of the belief that tripas should at least have a little crunch to them. The barbacoa was possibly the best of the four probably by default.
The gorditas were also a bit bland. The red and green sauces in each of the gorditas didn’t stick out much. In my past experiences with both rojo and raja gorditas, the sauce or even the meat are the key ingredients to stick out but that wasn’t the case here. The cheese and the starchiness of the tortillas were the major players for my palate. It was overly bready and just too starchy for me to enjoy.
My colleague at work usually does a fantastic job recommending hidden gems for Mexican food but this one time was a fail for me. Fortunately there are plenty of other Mexican restaurants on Broadway.
