Years ago, all the Taco Tico’s closed their doors in Wichita. Then over the past few years some Taco Tico’s would resurface around town and in the surrounding cities. It’s probably been five to six years since I last walked inside one. Earlier this year, the latest franchise opened up at 460 N. West Street. It was time to make my return to some low-grade meat tacos.

The fast food taco restaurant was a popular staple for me in high school and college. My orders always consisted of a taco burger and either some soft or hard shell tacos. I knew going in that it wasn’t the greatest quality meat but that has never stopped me. The decision to grab lunch there always consisted of four steps:
- Crave Taco Tico
- Get Taco Tico
- Regret Taco Tico
- Repeat Process
The biggest reason why I kept coming back was likely the green chili sauce. It had a nice thick quality to it and provided the right amount of heat.
On my long awaited return to Taco Tico, I ordered the taco burger and some tacos. Eating each item brought back many memories of lunches with friends in between classes. It also brought back many memories of looking at the meat and wondering what I was eating.
Let’s face it, Taco Tico isn’t for everybody. For most, it’s a guilty pleasure that people love and keep coming back for more. The meat is greasy and the tacos aren’t really stuffed with much.
The prices are pretty comparable to all the other fast food taco establishments in town. The establishment was also fairly clean on my visit. Which was a stark difference to my lunch stops to the one over at 21st and Oliver in college.
After I was done, I walked out and regretted it within ten minutes. But the next day, I was all ready for more Taco Tico. Don’t judge me.
