Sometimes if you’ve never been to a particular restaurant, navigating the menu to find what you want can be a big task. Fortunately there’s this little feature where we try to make one recommendation at a particular restaurant. The latest stop brought me to Metro Bistro out in Andover. I’ve never been before so I fortunately found a homerun dish to pass on. Here’s the latest installment of my favorite feature: “Must Try Menu Item“.
I didn’t know what to expect on my visit. The menu made me think it was a gourmet sandwich shop but the interior and atmosphere was very casual.
They had all sorts of sandwiches on the menu. I wanted to go with something that sounded unique and not commonly found on menus.
I settled with the Mahi Tropicana and am glad I did.
It’s seared white meat fish with garlic basil tartar sauce, cilantro, diced red onions, fresh mango, greens in balsamic vinegar, olive oil dressing and Roma tomatoes on toasted bread. The sandwich alone cost $10.95 which was a little steep. But I have this rule if the food taste great, price doesn’t matter (within reason of course).
First bite and I knew exactly that I loved it. Now for starters, it wasn’t top of the line sushi grade fish but did I really need that? No.
Now aside from that everything was beautifully crafted. If you love mango, this should be the sandwich to order. The mango and fish mixed so well together to provide a sandwich that was really light, sweet and juicy. The tartar sauce, olive oil dressing, Roma tomatoes were well thought out inclusions in this wonder of a meal. Everything inside just made it really vibrant in flavor.
It was one of those occasions where I was looking at how much of my sandwich was left and getting upset. My bites began to get smaller and smaller because I wanted to savor each moment. Meanwhile my daughter was staring at me wondering what was taking so long. One day she’ll understand.
