Dragon City Chinese Restaurant Review

I’ve been on a Chinese food kick lately and wanted to revisit a place I’ve been to only once: Dragon City Chinese Restaurant. There’s a location out on West Central that I’ve heard great things about. Since my last stop was years ago, this was a good a time as ever to check out some quick-service Chinese food.

Dragon City Chinese Restaurant follows the same tune of many quick-service Chinese stops. The menu, the containers, everything is very similar but the food can be different. That’s why I always encourage everyone not to judge similar restaurants the same. Go in and try each one.

On this lunch visit, I ordered the pepper steak lunch special along with 8 wings. Dragon City was only taking carryout orders, so they gave me a buzzer and I waited outside.

Once the buzzer went off, I stepped back inside to retrieve my food and quickly made my way home.

With quick-service Chinese food, you usually know what you’re getting. I don’t think any of these places will ever win a Best Chinese Food award but that’s not why many of us go. We go for convenience and affordable food.

For roughly $6, I got a big bowl of food that filled me up. The fried rice while mildly dry wasn’t all that bad once mixed in with the peppers, steak, onions and the glaze over the top. The steak wasn’t overly chewy like some other Chinese restaurants. Overall, it was a decently prepared dish where the value matched my expectations.

It also came with a side of crab rangoon that I forgot to snap a picture of.

As for the wings, they were 8 for $6.60. Here’s a tip if you’re not familiar with it, Asian restaurants are overlooked when talking about wings. Whether it’s a Chinese, Vietnamese or Thai restaurant, they all do a great job.

The wings at Dragon City were meaty with a thin skin surrounding it. I had mine soaked in a garlic sauce which I found to be very tasty.

I forgot I had an old picture in my phone from my last visit there. They had a hot & sour soup that I recall being fantastic. It was a great blend of being hot and sour at the same time with one not overpowering the other.

Bottom line, Dragon City Chinese Restaurant did a great job. It’s a breath of fresh air in a sea of quick-service Chinese restaurants which usually leave a lot to be desired.

….and of course the fortune:

Happy Dining,
Eddy
