While out at 31st and Hillside, I wanted to revisit a restaurant that literally moved a building. Birrieria “La Nieta De Villa” is a Mexican restaurant that originally opened in 2018 that specializes in lamb birria. They also have a second location on North Broadway called Birrieria La Nieta de Villa #2.

Birrieria La Nieta de Villa prides themselves on birria but I wanted to try something different from a birria plate.
My lunch started off with a cabeza and carnitas taco. Cabeza which is essentially cow head was one of the best parts of my meal. It was like moist, tender, greasy shredded beef. The carnitas taco (seen on the right side) was nearly rock hard and dried out. It was inedible and tossed out.
They had a special running that day for a quesabirria. It was basically a taco filled with birria and cheese and prepared like a quesadilla. The quesabirria was served with a delicious cup of consomé. It made for a wonderful rich dipping broth that enhanced the flavor of the quesabirria which was needed as it was also a little dry. There was no need for salsa here as the consomé did all the work.
All in all, I would say my trip to Birrieria “La Nieta De Villa” was slightly above average. There are three places nearby that serve tacos, Tacos El Rey, Jimenez Tacos and Taquería La Picosa that all do an amazing job so the competition is really stiff. I’d probably place this restaurant fourth on the list but that’s solely one person’s opinion. If anything, it would be worth checking out if you’re all about venturing all over town for food.
