I was looking to try a place I’ve never been before, so that required me to drive outside of Wichita. My destination was Rose Hill, KS and the restaurant was Happy House. It’s your classic quick service Chinese restaurant serving fried rice, chicken, beef and seafood dishes, and the very affordable lunch specials.

During my visit, the restaurant was only open for carryout which was fine. I ordered a handful of different dishes to share with some family I was visiting.
I snapped a few pictures, but some dishes included pepper steak, sweet and sour chicken, Mongolian beef, fried rice and lo mein.
For the most part, everything was done well. I had the pepper steak and I thoroughly enjoyed the sauce my meal was glazed in. The steak was decently tender and there was a proportionate ratio of onions to peppers to steak.
The one area my family and I had issue with was the rice. It was undercooked, which left many hard, tough pieces of rice in our dish. We hope this was a one-off issue and not the norm because most of the rice we had was just wasted. It was unfortunate because everything else was appetizing. It was just your basic, classic quick-service Chinese dishes done conveniently and affordable.
Aside from our rice issue, we enjoyed what we had. If I were in Rose Hill again, I’d give them another try.
